On Halloween, 31 October 2023, Kunsthalle Basel hosted a night of suspense and thrills. The evening began with a guided tour through the exhibition Have You Checked the Children. Afterwards, the audience was able to immerse themselves in a dark atmosphere at Stadtkino Basel. Three short films were shown on the screen, personally selected by the artist Diego Marcon especially for this evening.
The film night began with The Sitter (1977) by Fred Walton. The horror film inspired the title of the exhibition, Have You Checked the Children: in the film, the killer repeatedly asks a babysitter this question over the phone. This was followed by Alan Clark’s dark experimental short Elephant (1989). Finally, artist Diego Marcon’s Ludwig (2018) took the audience on a ship lit only by a match.
After the screening, 37 guests exchanged their thoughts on the films while enjoying refreshing drinks and letting the Halloween evening slowly end.
