Kunsthalle Basel presents at STADTKINO BASEL:
LA HORA DE LOS HORNOS –
THE HOUR OF THE FURNACES, (1968)

This rarely shown film is going to be presented on the occasion of the group exhibition ‚Report on Probability’. It is a key film of the Latin American political cinema of that time and was produced in the Argentine underground under the most difficult circumstances. As a three-part pamphlet it is aiming against the neo-colonial repression and is characterized by an unequivocal tone as well as an essayistic documentary method. Solanas and Getino are among the originators of the „Third Cinema“, which advocates the total independence of the filmmakers and rebels against neo-colonialism.
The artist Runo Lagomarsino integrated some stills of the film in his installation at the Kunsthalle. He will attend the film screening and give an introduction in English.
