Event Description:
How do we listen to images rather than simply look at them? In what ways might our manipulations of images make the unseen, the unheard, and the unspoken visible?

Over the course of a three-day workshop, participants will engage with Troy Montes Michie's exhibition The Jawbone Sings Blue, learn about scrapbooking, and develop their own version of a personal archive using different image manipulation techniques.

Participants will explore topics such as cultural representation, race, queerness, and power structures in society by drawing inspiration from Michie's artistic practice and feminist theories by Tina Campt. This includes her approach to \"listening\" to images through sensation, sound, and emotional resonance.

Tuesday, December 02, 2025 | 6–7:30 p.m.
At the end of the preceding workshop sessions, participants will have the opportunity to present their works as part of a small exhibition in the foyer of the Kunsthalle Basel. The evening will be accompanied by an aperitif.

The number of participants is limited, so please register in advance.

Carlos Enrique Valencia Quiñonez, Performance Artist and model.

Valencia Quiñonez’s practice is rooted in the body as a medium of expression. Alongside movement, he writes prose and poetry, seeking to bridge the languages of text and the body.

The event takes place in the exhibition rooms of Kunsthalle Basel. The space is accessible to all, with stairs and elevators available to reach the different levels. If you need assistance on-site, you can contact the Kunsthalle Basel team.

Recording:
The event will not be recorded.

Time:
Each workshop starts at an individual time (3 p.m., 2 p.m., 6 p.m.), late entry is possible. The duration of each workshop session varies from 1 hour to max. 4 hours. There will be breaks in between.

Seating:
Seating will be provided.

Language:
The event will be conducted primarily in German and English. Translations will be provided.

Content Notes:
The event addresses or includes depictions of: identity politics, grief, queerness, and nudity.

Accompaniment:
Service dogs are welcome.
